Journalist threatened by police officer

(FNJ/IFEX) - On 16 May 2009, Parsa Radhe Mohan Kuswaha, Sub-Inspector of the District Police Office, threatened local journalist Sanjaya Saha in Birgunj.

The sub-inspector was angered by one of Saha's news articles which mentioned that police personnel were taking bribes. Saha works for "Janapratibimba" weekly as a sub-editor. He had recently reported in the paper that police officers had received a bribe of Rs. 3.5 lakh from local businessmen.

The FNJ and the organisation's Parsa branch strongly condemn the action of the police sub-inspector and demand that an apology be issued.
