Radio journalist attacked on his way home

(Freedom Forum/IFEX) - On 2 January 2011, an unidentified group of three persons attacked Himal Chaudhary, a journalist for Himal FM Radio in Banke, a district in midwestern Nepal. Chaudhary was on his way home from his office when he was attacked by the gang with a sharp weapon.

Chaudhary was admitted to Nepal Teaching Hospital with serious injuries. He told reporters that the gang who attacked him accused him of writing about them.

The individuals responsible for the assault have yet to be identified.

Calling the incident an attempt to prevent a journalist from covering the news, Freedom Forum condemns the attack and demands the authorities responsible prosecute the guilty.
