Journalist denounces alleged plot to kill him

(IPYS/IFEX) - On 20 April 2010, journalist Jaime Bayly, writer and presenter of the "El Francotirador" program, broadcast on Frecuencia Latina Canal 2, denounced in an article published in the Lima-based newspaper "Perú 21" that the Venezuelan government has hired hit men to "kill him."

According to the journalist, he received this information from the Colombian Administrative Security Department (DAS). Bayly has been under the protection of the Peruvian State's Security Department since 8 April because his life is considered to be at risk.

On 19 April, the DAS issued a communiqué stating it had found evidence of a plot to end Bayly's life.

The DAS communiqué does not specify who wants to harm the journalist.
