Media professionals, unite! Sign a solidarity letter to support a popular independent Russian media organisation that has been forced to shut down.

The Educated Media Foundation (EMF, formerly known as Internews Russia), an independent Russian organisation that trains and supports journalists, was driven to suspend operations in April. Following a criminal investigation into EMF's president, Manana Aslamazyan, for suspected "smuggling," police raided the foundation's headquarters in Moscow in April and confiscated its servers and financial documents.

More than 2,000 Russian journalists have already signed the open letter to President Vladimir Putin in support of Aslamazyan and the EMF, organised by Global Forum for Media Development, which EMF helped launch. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) also voiced its concern for the EMF's future at its World Congress last week in Moscow. Check out the letter at, and to sign it, send your name, affiliation and email address (for verification purposes only) to: [email protected]
