Anna Politkovskaya: What's happened since the Russian journalist's murder?

(CJFE/IFEX) - Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya faced numerous threats and attacks over the course of her career. After death threats, negotiating a hostage situation, surviving an alleged poisoning, and being held captive, she was murdered in her elevator on October 7, 2006.

November 23 marks the International Day to End Impunity, a campaign demanding justice for those who have been targeted for exercising their right to free expression.

Russia is one of the top 10 countries listed on the Committee to Protect Journalists' Impunity Index. To help put a spotlight on the issue of impunity in Russia, and help mark the Day, we have put together a timeline of the major events related to Anna Politkovskaya's murder.
