Journalist killed, another wounded in Mogadishu
Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, 39, who arrived in Mogadishu with a humanitarian aid organization, was shot dead around 6:00 p.m. on 2 September 2011 at the KM4 junction in Mogadishu's city centre. He was hit by a bullet allegedly fired by African Union peacekeeping troops, according to journalists who were at the KM4 junction. The bullet reportedly penetrated Nor's chest.
Nor, who died while receiving treatment, was accompanied by Aziz Reza Mazlan, a TV3 cameramen. Mazlan was shot and slightly injured in the incident. The two journalists arrived in Mogadishu on 28 August with the Putera 1 Malaysia Club to cover the humanitarian aid activities of the organization.
"We extend our condolences to the family and colleagues of Noramfaizul Mohd Nor. This is an appalling incident, especially considering that Nor came for a humanitarian mission and ended up losing his life. We call on the African Union mission to thoroughly investigate this deadly incident," said NUSOJ Secretary General Omar Faruk Osman.
Nor, who left behind two children and their mother, is the second journalist in 2011 to have allegedly been killed by African Union troops in Mogadishu.
