MISA launches website

(MISA/IFEX) - With the 26 September 1997 launch of MISA's Web
site, action alerts, media freedom events, MISA publications,
regional contacts, and much more, are just a local phone call
away. MISA's URL is:

MISA has always endeavoured to be at the forefront of harnessing
new communication technologies for its media freedom work in
Southern Africa. The launch of this Web site is a logical
continuation of our ground-breaking News Exchange and Action
Alert system. These are e-mail based networks used for
redistributing locally produced news among over 40 different
regional media organisations and free expression groups world-

The Web site provides information about MISA: its history, media
freedom news, current activities, publications and important
documents such as the Windhoek Declaration. There is also news
about upcoming events in Southern Africa's media freedom
calendar, as well as a page for users to air their views.

Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of the site is a
searchable on-line archive, containing all Action Alerts and News
Exchange stories going back to early 1995. This valuable research
tool is searchable by keyword, date and source publication.

As the Web site is still under construction, some of the pages
are not complete. MISA welcomes feedback on any aspect of the new
Web site. Users will find a "contact MISA" button at the bottom
of every page.
