Informal street vendors burst into newspaper's offices in Anzoategui, intimidate reporter following critical article

(IPYS/IFEX) - On 10 March 2008, a crowd of approximately 50 informal street vendors burst into the headquarters of the newspaper "La Prensa de Anzoategui" to complain about an article the newspaper had published denouncing the problems caused by informal street commerce in the city of Puerto La Cruz, state of Anzoategui, in northeastern Venezuela.

The crowd sought out journalist Katherine Herrera, the author of the article. They insulted her and took her picture with their cell phones as the journalist attempted to speak with them.

The newspaper has assigned the journalist to another desk for security reasons, although the newspaper continues to cover issues related to informal trading.
