Former governor granted parole after two months in detention

(IPYS/IFEX) - On 13 May 2010, the 25th Control Tribunal of the Caracas Metropolitan Area, presided by Judge Rafael Osío, granted parole to Oswaldo Álvarez Paz, former governor of the State of Zulia.

The political leader must appear before the court every 15 days; he cannot leave the country and has been also forbidden from making public statements about his case.

Álvarez Paz was detained on 22 March because of comments he made on the program "Aló Ciudadano", transmitted by Globovisión TV station. A preliminary hearing will take place on 28 May to decide if Álvarez Paz will be tried for the crimes he has been accused of.
