Regional newspaper target of explosion in Carabobo

(IPYS-Venezuela/IFEX) - On July 10, 2012 an explosive device was thrown at a vehicle belonging to “La Costa” newspaper. The paper covers news in the state of Carabobo, in central Venezuela.

The attack happened at 8:45 p.m. when, according to witnesses, three men riding motorbikes threw the explosive device at the truck used by one of the paper's news crews as it was parked in front of the paper's main office. The vehicle exploded instantly and burst in flames. The firemen declared the vehicle to be an “absolute loss”, as reported by the newspaper in the following day's edition.

Wismar Marjal, chief editor of “La Costa” told IPYS-Venezuela that there were people working in the newspaper offices when the attacked happed. Luckily nobody was injured. Marjal also said they do not know of the reasons behind the attack. They are now waiting for the results of the investigations carried out by the police.
